Barcelona To Sell Out-Of-Favour Defender Amid Bundesliga Interest

Barcelona loanee, Sergino Dest, is reportedly on the radar of Bundesliga team Union Berlin as the summer transfer window approaches.

Union Berlin will compete in the UEFA Champions League next season after finishing fourth in the Bundesliga. And Dest has emerged as a player the club is interested in signing this summer as they strive to strengthen their squad.

German media reports from a month ago said that Union Berlin and the player were nearing an agreement for a loan that would become official at the end of the season.

However, according to recent reports, Barcelona are unwilling to loan out the USMNT player.

Instead, the Blaugrana are looking to permanently sell him to aid their financial situation.

Dest never really got going at Barça, after purchasing him from AFC Ajax in 2020. He was sent out on loan to AC Milan last summer after entirely losing favor under Xavi Hernandez during the 2021–2022 season.

The right-back’s tenure in Italy has been nothing short of a disaster as Stefano Pioli’s team utilized him only 14 times in all competitions.

Milan had the chance to sign Dest on a permanent basis, but they will not be utilizing it and he will return to Barcelona before likely moving on to a different club.

Meanwhile, after using Jules Kounde as a makeshift right-back throughout the season, Barcelona are in serious need of a new right-back this summer.

However, there is not much chance that Dest will stay at the club and get another crack at proving himself under Xavi.
