The 26-Year-Old French Star Is Hopeful To Be One Of Barcelona’s Captains Next Season

The FC Barcelona squad for the upcoming season will be drastically different from the squad that represented the club last season, as a number of key players have left and new ones have joined, with more new acquisitions on the way.

Three of the club’s most senior players, including Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets, left last season. All three of these players were team leaders, and with their departure, the club would have to choose the four captains who will lead the club throughout the upcoming season.

According to SPORT, one player who appears unlikely to become a captain any time soon but actually has a high chance of doing so next season is Ousmane Dembele. The Frenchman is in his sixth season at the club and is the team’s third most senior player, trailing only Sergi Roberto and Ter Stegen.

Dembele’s tenure at the club has been filled with highs and lows, with long stretches on the bench preventing him from contributing to the team and contentious contract discussions vilifying him in the eyes of the supporters. However, the athlete has always been loyal to the club and has no plans to leave anytime soon.

This was evident when he did not take use of a contract clause that would have allowed him to exit for only €50 million. His aim, according to the Frenchman, is to win the Champions League with Barcelona.

This dedication to the club and its mission has also won over Xavi, who has admired the Frenchman since they began working together. The rest of the team respects and loves Dembele, and his prospects of becoming a captain next season are improving.
