Barcelona No Longer Planning Move For Marcus Thuram

Barcelona are reportedly no longer interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram.

The 25-year-old’s future is now up in the air, with his contract set to expire at the end of June, sparking a flurry of transfer rumors.

Die Fohlen are said to be hopeful of getting the French international to sign a new contract, but he is widely anticipated to leave this summer in pursuit of greener pastures.

Barcelona have been strongly linked with Thuram as the Catalan club look to replace Robert Lewandowski ahead of the 2023-24 season.

With the Catalan club lacking the resources to acquire a costly addition within the final third of the field, there had been suggestions that they would look at the free agent market.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s interest have cooled, with Xavi’s side not planning to sign Thuram on a free transfer.

According to the report, Bayern Munich are the favorites to sign the Frenchman, as the German champions look to replace Lewandowski, who left for Barcelona last year.

Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Manchester United have all been connected with Thuram, who has been in excellent form for his Bundesliga club this season.

In 25 outings for Monchengladbach this season, the forward has 14 goals and four assists, with 11 of his goals coming in Germany’s top division.

Thuram has 42 goals and 26 assists in 127 appearances for his current club since joining from Guingamp in the summer of 2019.

Barcelona manager Joan Laporta recently stated that his side will be looking for a new forward this summer.

Lewandowski has scored 25 goals for Barcelona this season, while Raphinha and Ousmane Dembele are tied for second with eight each.
