Barcelona Missing Five players Due To Injury Against Inter Milan

Barcelona will be missing five first-team players for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Inter Milan at San Siro.

The Catalan giants returned to action following the international break on Saturday, defeating Mallorca 1-0, with Robert Lewandowski netting the game-winning goal in the first half.

Barcelona’s focus will now shift to the Champions League, where Xavi’s team will attempt to avenge their 2-0 setback to Bayern Munich in the competition last time out.

The La Liga club will face Inter twice in a row, travelling to San Siro on Tuesday before hosting the Italian giants in the reverse group match on October 12.

Barcelona Players To Be Left Out Against Inter Milan

Memphis Depay, Jules Kounde, Hector Bellerin, and Ronald Araujo were all missing against Mallorca, and the quartet have been ruled out of this encounter due to injury.

There were expectations that Frenkie de Jong would be available, with the midfielder looking to recover from a hamstring injury suffered while representing the Netherlands last month.

However, the 25-year-old has been left out of the squad, and it is unknown when he will be ready for selection again.

Bellerin, Memphis, and Kounde are all expected to return to play within the next two to three weeks, but Araujo will be sidelined until the end of the year after undergoing thigh surgery.

“Ronald Araujo has been operated on successfully for his adductor longus avulsion injury in his right thigh. The procedure was carried out by Dr. Lasse Lempainen under the supervision of the club’s medical services in Turku, Finland. The player is unavailable for selection and his recovery will dictate his return,” according to a statement from Barcelona.

Marc Casado, who was in the squad against Mallorca at the weekend, will travel to Italy to provide cover at right-back and central midfield.

Due to the unavailability of Araujo and Kounde, Alejandro Balde began at right back versus Mallorca, with Gerard Pique filling in the middle of the defence.

Raphinha, Pedri, Eric Garcia, and Marcos Alonso will be among those vying for a starting spot against Inter at San Siro.

Barcelona are now second in Group C, with three points after their first two games, while Inter are third with the same number of points.

Xavi’s team has now won their last six league matches, putting them in first place in La Liga, barely ahead of champions Real Madrid, who have 19 points from their first seven games.
