Barcelona May Be Barred From The 2024/2025 Champions League

According to reports, Barcelona may be barred from the 2024–2025 Champions League for breaking financial rules.

According to Sport Bible, After winning Group H, the Blaugrana advanced to the round of 16, where they will play Napoli, the Serie A champion, over two clubs.

However, according to recent reports, the team may be kicked out of the top club league in European football for breaking Financial Fair Play regulations.

Although Barca’s recent financial problems are well known, in September they reported a net profit of 304 million euros.

But a WELT report claimed that the club’s balance sheets were “a mess”.

Barca was fined €500,000 by UEFA in the summer after the financial control chamber of the organization decided that the Catalan team had “incorrectly declared profits” and that their income was not “relevant”.

According to reports, a “two to three year” ban is feasible, and the maxim “the greater the loss, the greater the penalty” will be applied.

However, since the club is one of the driving forces behind the European Super League’s relaunch, a potential suspension might not have as much of an impact as one might think.

Barca expressed their wish to participate in the breakaway competition as soon as they responded to the European Union of Justice’s decision on Thursday.

“FC Barcelona wishes to express its satisfaction with the Court of Justice of the European Union’s (CJEU) decision regarding the Super League project as proposed by A22 Sports,” the statement said.

“As one of the clubs driving the Super League project, FC Barcelona feels that the sentence paves the way for a new elite level football competition in Europe by opposing the monopoly over the football world, and wishes to initiate new discussions as to the path that European competitions should take in the future.”

However, a number of clubs disassociated themselves from the matter, and FIFA and UEFA claim that the decision has no bearing on the current circumstances.
