Barcelona Legend Set To Depart Camp Nou This Summer

Sergio Busquets has decided to leave FC Barcelona when his contract expires at the end of the season, according to a report in Spain.

The future of the legendary midfielder was the subject of months’ worth of rumors, with manager Xavi keen to keep him as well as links with Inter Miami and Saudi clubs.

The 34-year-old has now made it clear that he intends to leave the club at the end of the current season, contrary to earlier speculation that he would decide to stay for one more season.

Busquets will be remembered as one of the greatest players in the club’s history after making 719 appearances for the Blaugrana since his debut in 2008.

His decision, which would result in him not extending his £630k per week contract with the club, was reported by Marca.

There are now speculations that he could join Al-Hilal in an attempt to bring Lionel Messi to Saudi Arabia this summer, as the Argentine hunts for a new team.

Busquets will have had to take a paycut in order to stay at the club, with Barcelona still struggling financially. This did Xavi no favours when trying to convince his former teammate to remain in his midfield.

Xavi described Busquets as “really important” earlier this season.

And now, there may be worries about how Barcelona will cope with the departure of their captain.
