Barcelona Confirm Signing Of Former Chelsea Defender Andreas Christensen On Free Transfer

Barcelona have completed the signing of Andreas Christensen as a free agent. The move to Camp Nou was approved after the Danish defender severed ties with Chelsea.

The 26-year-old centre-half had been linked with a move to Catalunya since it was reported he would not be signing a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

A lengthy process, complicated by ongoing financial concerns at Barcelona, has finally come to an end.

How Long Is Christensen’s Contract With Barcelona?

Barcelona was able to offer Christensen a lucrative four-year contract through the summer of 2026 without having to pay a transfer fee.

It is the same length as the contract Franck Kessie signed, who had earlier that day been officially announced as a member of the Barcelona team. Both players have €500 million release clauses, and Christensen will be unveiled on Thursday, the day after signing from Milan.

There are still problems with the registration of new players, but the Blaugrana claim they have enough room in their pay cap to formally confirm and bring in new players.

What Will Christensen Bring To Barca?

The international player from Denmark, who has 56 international appearances to his record, will provide Barcelona’s back line valuable experience.

With Gerard Pique nearing the end of his career, another season performer is set to replace Ronald Araujo and Eric Garcia.

Christensen played in 93 Premier League games for Chelsea between 2015 and 2017, during which time he also spent two seasons on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga.

He regularly participated in continental competition as well, and he brings Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super, and FIFA Club World Cup championship medals to Camp Nou.
