Aston Villa ‘Slam Reports Of Steven Gerrard Sacking’

Aston Villa have reportedly dismissed reports that Steven Gerrard has been sacked as manager on Monday evening.

Despite a four-match undefeated streak, the Villa boss was seen to be under intense pressure ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match against Chelsea.

Despite being the better team for long stretches of the game, the West Midlands outfit was defeated by a 2-0 scoreline, which was worsened by two individual errors and a string of missed opportunities.

While the performance had some positives, Villa now sits in 16th place in the Premier League rankings, only one point above the relegation zone.

It was reported on Monday night that the Villa management had decided to strip Gerrard of his duties in the dugout.

Furthermore, former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino and Villarreal manager Unai Emery were strongly associated with the vacant position.

According to the Birmingham Mail, the report is untrue, and Gerrard remains in charge of the first team.

According to the site, the club’s communications director Tommy Jordan stated that the information that surfaced was “complete lies.”

If Gerrard remains in charge of Villa in the coming days, he will be conscious of the strain on himself and his players as they face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Thursday evening.

Nonetheless, Villa can leapfrog their hosts, who are currently in 11th place, if they win by two goals in West London.

However, Villa have only scored more than once in a Premier League game once all season, against Everton on the second weekend of August.

Three days after playing Fulham, Villa also hosts Brentford, another team in ninth place and just four points ahead of them in the standings.
