Arsenal Keen To Sign Ajax Defender Jurrien Timber

Arsenal are reportedly working on a deal to sign Jurrien Timber this summer after Ajax rejected their £30m opening bid for the opening.

Following a second-place performance in the Premier League in 2022-23, Mikel Arteta will be given the funds to make a number of big signings.

With the possibility of Granit Xhaka departing for Bayer Leverkusen, the midfield appears to be the priority, with Declan Rice and Romeo Lavia both linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium.

Furthermore, the Gunners are poised to finalize the signing of Kai Havertz in due course, providing they can agree on a deal with Chelsea.

However, with Arsenal fighting for clean sheets at the end of the season, it feels important that they add at least one new face to their defense.

According to The Athletic, that player could be Ajax defender Timber, who has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Manchester United, who recently appointed new head coach Erik ten Hag, were said to be interested in signing the Netherlands international during the summer transfer window in 2022.

However, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot were impressive at right-back last season, and United look to be more interested in alternatives to Timber.

The 22-year-old remains in line for a chance in England’s top division, with Arsenal set to negotiate terms with Ajax.

As things stand, valuations differ: Arsenal have only bid £30m, but Ajax want closer to £50m.

Regardless of their conflicting positions, the report suggests that a deal will be struck eventually, with Timber’s contract expiring in 2025 boosting the possibility.

Timber, who has made 121 appearances for the Dutch giants in all competitions, could be a useful asset to Arteta in terms of versatility.
