Arsenal ‘Delay Mikel Arteta Contract Talks Amid Interest From PSG’

Arsenal have reportedly put contract talks with manager Mikel Arteta on hold amidst interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Arteta, who has been in charge of Arsenal since December 2019, hopes to lead the club to their first Premier League title since the 2003-04 season.

The Spaniard’s outstanding performance at Emirates Stadium has fueled speculation regarding a new contract.

Arteta only signed a new contract last summer, which runs through 2025 and includes a pay increase in excess of £3m each year.

However, the Arsenal management appears to be concerned that Arteta is being tracked by a number of Europe’s top clubs.

Paris Saint-Germain are said to be interested in their former player, with the manager’s situation at the Parc des Princes uncertain.

Christophe Galtier was only appointed PSG manager last summer, but he is poised to resign at the end of the season after the club’s Champions League last-16 loss.

Manchester City and Barcelona are not likely to make a bid for Arteta in the near future, but they regard him as a possible manager in the long term.

Although Arsenal are eager to tie Arteta down to a new contract, The Sun reports that contract talks will be put on hold until the title chase is over.

Arsenal surrendered a two-goal lead for the second game in a row in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with West Ham United.

The Gunners finished the weekend with a four-point lead over Pep Guardiola’s side, who have a game in hand.

Arsenal will play Southampton on Friday before facing Manchester City in a title decider.

If Arteta can lead Arsenal to the Premier League title, his stock will undoubtedly climb ahead of future contract negotiations.
