Ancelotti Lauds Xavi’s Barcelona Decision, Picks Balon d’Or Winner

Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti has praised Xavi Hernandez’s decision to stay at Barcelona beyond the 2023/24 season.

Xavi first declared he would leave the Blaugrana club on June 30. the 44-year-old did, however, agree to finish out his contract, which expires on the same date in 2025, following a meeting with Barca president Joan Laporta at his home on Wednesday night.

According to Forbes, Ancelotti stated that Xavi “has done a good job at Barca” in response to a question regarding this during his media appearance to preview Friday’s league matchup with Real Sociedad.

“He knows the club well and it’s a good decision for him to stay,” Ancelotti added.

The latest edition of El Clasico, which ended 3-2 to the hosts at the Bernabeu and widened up an 11-point gap at the top, did not sit well with the two biggest clubs in La Liga.

Laporta threatened to request a replay of the match if it is established that Lamine Yamal’s first-half effort did, in fact, enter Andriy Lunin’s net. Meanwhile, Xavi labeled the officiating and Spain’s lack of goal line technology as a “embarrassment”.

Ancelotti was asked who he would pick to win the Ballon d’Or later this year and replied, “Bellingham and Vinicius, both of them”.

However, only one winner will have the chance to unseat Barcelona legend Lionel Messi when it comes to the France Football award given out in Paris.
