Amorim Agrees Deal In Principle To Become Klopp’s Successor At Liverpool

Sporting Lisbon manager, Ruben Amorim has verbally agreed a deal in principle to become the next Liverpool manager ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Earlier this season, Jurgen Klopp announced his decision to step down from his position as Liverpool boss, citing lack of energy to continue as the main reason for the decision.

Ever since, Liverpool have been looking for a suitable candidate to replace the German at the helm. Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso was the front-runner before he declared himself not available.

This has now made Amorim the top candidate for the ultimate job in Merseyside.

According to Irish Examiner, Amorim has negotiated a three-year deal to replace Klopp. Though, Liverpool and Sporting are yet to finalize the activation of release clause of the 39-year-old.

Speaking before Sporting’s most recent 2-1 victory over Benfica, their title rivals. Which gave them a four-point lead at the Liga Portugal summit, Amorim declined to say he would be on the sideline for the club beyond this season.

“No, I can’t guarantee [I’ll stay]. I gave my word and I can’t go back on it. If we don’t win titles, I’ll leave Sporting. It was clear from the start, it was the bet I passed on to the players. We have to win titles.”

In 2020–2021, his first full season, Amorim led Sporting to their first domestic title in 19 years. He is regarded as one of Europe’s most sought-after managerial prospects.
