Alfie Whiteman Extends Contract With Tottenham Until 2025

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman has signed a new contract with the club until 2025.

The 24-year-old joined Tottenham’s development system in the summer of 2008 and has made one professional appearance for the club since graduating.

Whiteman made his senior Tottenham debut as a substitute in a Europa League match against Ludogorets in November 2020, when he kept a clean sheet in a 4-0 win after replacing Joe Hart in the 82nd minute.

Despite failing to make an impact in Antonio Conte’s plans, Whiteman has committed his future to Tottenham for the next two years as the club deal with a goalkeeping injury crisis.

Hugo Lloris will be out for a few more weeks with a knee injury, leaving Whiteman and Brandon Austin to provide backup to current deputy Fraser Forster.

Whiteman was on the bench for Spurs’ Champions League last-16 first leg loss to AC Milan last week, but he is yet to make a Premier League appearance this season.

Between August 2021 and December 2022, the former England Under-19 international had two separate loan spells with Swedish team Degerfors, maintaining three clean sheets in 34 games.

Whiteman’s current contract was set to expire at the end of the season, but he has already agreed to prolong his stay with his boyhood club. Following two consecutive loan stints with the Swedish team Degerfors, the goalkeeper returned to the club at the end of the previous season.

Initially joining the club in August 2021 for the remainder of the 2021 campaign, he then headed back to Sweden last February to link up with them for the full 2022 season. Since returning to N17, Whiteman has worked with fellow goalkeepers Hugo Lloris, Fraser Forster and Brandon Austin at Hotspur Way.
