Ake delighted to complete ‘dream’ Manchester City switch

Manchester City have completed the signing of Netherlands centre-back Nathan Ake from Bournemouth on a five-year contract.

Pep Guardiola’s side have agreed an initial £40million deal with the Cherries – who were relegated to the Championship on the final day of the season – which could rise to £41m.

Confirmation of the Dutch centre-back’s arrival comes just a day after City announced their first deal of the summer transfer window in the form of Valencia winger Ferran Torres.

“City have been the best side in England over the course of the last decade,” Ake told City’s official website.

“Coming here is a dream for me. This is a top side full of world-class players. Everywhere you look in this squad there are big names with international pedigree.

“Pep is a manager admired across the world – what he’s done in the game speaks for itself. The success he’s had is unbelievable and the style of football he plays really appeals to me.

“I know I’m going to have to work hard to get into the side, but that’s what I’m here to do. I’ll do whatever I can to make an impact and help the team win silverware.”

Ake made 121 appearances after joining Bournemouth permanently in 2017 from Chelsea, playing in every Premier League game in both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.

The Blues had first refusal on Ake, a clause which could have been activated with a £40million bid.

But Frank Lampard’s side failed to move which paved the way for City to agree a fee which will see Bournemouth net a guaranteed £40m, with the remaining £1m made up of add-ons and bonuses.
