After Barcelona’s Copa Del Rey Victory Over Unionistas, The Superstar Had An Argument With Xavi

It appears that things are becoming hotter at Barcelona. According to a report from Bar Canaletes, after the Blaugranas defeated Unionistas 3-1 in the Copa del Rey Round of 16, there was a fight in the changing room between the players and Xavi.

A few days following their defeat against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final, Barcelona made the trip to Salamanca’s Campo de Futbol Reina Sofia. They did emerge triumphant, but at the expense of giving up an early goal.

Given the outcome of the game, it is reasonable to conclude that Barcelona did not enjoy their time away from home. Nevertheless, because the Copa del Rey is the only championship they will be vying for this season, it was crucial for Xavi to use his best XI.

Lewandowski was disappointed.

It turns out that experienced forward Robert Lewandowski expressed his displeasure with the team selection during the game, claiming that the starting XI ought to have been stronger.

After all, Xavi had chosen to start with guys like Marc Guiu, Oriol Romeu, and Fermin Lopez instead of starting with elite players like Ilkay Gundogan, Pedri, and Lewandowski.

“This was analysed with the staff, the line-up was the right one,” Xavi said in reaction to the forward.

The issue did not stop there, either, as one of Barça’s captains—who was not Marc-Andre Ter Stegen nor Ronald Araujo—told Xavi, “It’s not the first time you’ve analysed something wrong.”

It’s interesting to note that the board members were spectators during the entire incident, and Deco chose to enter the changing room despite his disagreement with Xavi.

Barcelona was able to move past the supposed incident in the locker room and beat Real Betis 4-2 in La Liga last weekend. The Copa del Rey is once again the main focus, with a quarterfinal matchup versus Athletic Club scheduled for tomorrow.
