Liverpool Target Andy Robertson Replacement As Club Legend Closes In On Next Move

Liverpool are considering a move for RB Leipzig star David Raum to replace the departed Andy Robertson. Last week, it was reported that Liverpool’s 32-year-old Roberton would leave when his contract expired in June.

Despite seeing less playing time this season, the Scottish left-back’s exit, along with that of Mo Salah, will remove a wealth of expertise from the Liverpool dressing room. But German defender Raum has emerged as a genuine contender to replace him.

According to talkSPOR, Liverpool has been impressed with the 27-year-old during scouting missions in the Bundesliga. The Reds have been watching Leipzig games to keep an eye on Yan Diomande, who is valued at £87 million.

But their captain, Raum, has also piqued their interest at Anfield. The Germany international’s attacking abilities and leadership characteristics might make him an excellent successor to Robertson while also allowing Milos Kerkez, Liverpool’s first-choice left-back, to grow further.

He’s a regular for Germany and is poised to compete in the World Cup this summer. So will Robertson, who is already planning his next move.

The Liverpool star, who has won nine championships in as many seasons at Anfield, is in advanced discussions to join Tottenham. Spurs pursued him in January, but Liverpool were unwilling to let him leave.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham’s possible relegation to the Championship will prevent him from joining the club. Robertson is thought to have additional suitors, with a transfer to childhood club Celtic also being discussed.

In 2020, the former Celtic youth star remarked on That Peter Crouch podcast: “If you asked me now what I’d want to do, I’d love to retire at Liverpool, of course, but you know how difficult it is to play at the highest level until you’re 35-36.”
