Atlético Madrid Celebrates Lamine Yamal’s Excellence

Lamine Yamal’s quest for a Champions League trophy ended this season, but the Barcelona star departed Atlético Madrid certain that he is one of the finest players in the world.

Atlético left-back Matteo Ruggeri praised Yamal’s skill during the return leg of the Champions League quarterfinal on Tuesday. Compliments to him for the player he is and the skill he possesses,” Ruggeri told Sky Italia.

Yamal, 18, scored the first goal in Barcelona’s 2-1 triumph at the Metropolitano. This was the teenager’s eleventh Champions League goal. “No player has scored more in the competition before their 19th birthday. “We are all aware of his talent and ability as a player,” Ruggeri stated. “We’ve all done well; I wasn’t the only one who limited him. This enabled us to move forward and score. I wish him the best in his career.”

Ruggeri, who had six stitches after sustaining a nasty face cut after colliding with Barça’s Gavi on Tuesday, claimed his players “let everything on the pitch” to advance to their first semifinal since 2017.

Atlético, who knocked Barcelona from the Copa del Rey last month, took a 2-0 lead in the first leg but had to fight hard to win 3-2 on aggregate. Barcelona is a very good squad, but we defended effectively and were able to get forward,” Ruggeri added. “We left everything on the pitch and fought until the last minute. We’re happy. We should be quite pleased of what we accomplished against such a powerful squad.”
