Barcelona Believe They Can Beat Real Madrid To Signature of Spain Winger

Victor Munoz of Osasuna is one of the season’s biggest stories in La Liga, having joined Los Rojillo for €5 million from Real Madrid in the summer. Munoz earned his first Spain cap just nine months later, scoring on debut against Serbia in a 3-0 triumph.

There is already talk that he will not stay at El Sadar for long, with Munoz attracting interest from both abroad and within Spain. Sunderland offered Osasuna €25 million for Munoz in January, but the 22-year-old declined. Osasuna are aiming to bring in his whole €40m release clause in order to let him go, while Real Madrid have a repurchase option of €8m on Munoz.

Last week, it was revealed that Barcelona was closely monitoring Munoz’s progress and had identified him as an alternative if they decided not to exercise their €30 million buy clause for Marcus Rashford. Sport reports that, despite Real Madrid’s own buyback option on Munoz, Barcelona believes there is a way to clinch his deal without Los Blancos intervening.

Real Madrid has no wish to see Munoz play for Barcelona, whom he previously represented as an academy player, and would consider signing him if the Blaugrana did. According to the Catalan paper, Osasuna is willing to negotiate a price for Munoz, and if Barcelona can agree and complete a contract with them before Real Madrid exercises their buyback option, they will be able to leave Los Blancos with only a 50% sell-on charge.

Deal would demand decisiveness from Barcelona.

However, a variety of variables would need to be in place for this to occur. Barcelona rarely makes secret signings, and given that the left-wing position is third or fourth on their list of priorities this summer, the transaction is unlikely to be completed quickly. Furthermore, Munoz is currently just one of several options under consideration, whereas Real Madrid appears to be set on re-signing him.
