There has been a lot of speculation over Julian Alvarez’s future, with recent reports suggesting that Barcelona could be a possible destination for him next summer.
It has been suggested that Alvarez may be seeking for a change of scenery, particularly after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Barcelona remains on high alert, as the club sees him as one of the best long-term options for Robert Lewandowski.
Barcelona cannot afford Alvarez.
However, according to Catalunya Radio’s Jordi Costa (h/t FCB World), Barcelona cannot afford Julian Alvarez next summer.
Although the player may be interested in moving to Camp Nou, the club just lacks the resources to complete the transfer.

According to Costa, insiders close to the club believe it will be extremely difficult for Barcelona to complete a transaction of this magnitude this summer.
This is hardly surprising, given that Barcelona has yet to revert to the 1:1 norm and continues to operate with an inflated pay bill.
Unless the Catalans can achieve a few high-profile departures this summer, it seems unlikely that they will be able to recruit a player like Alvarez.
The futures of Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araujo, and even Marc Casado have all been under scrutiny in recent months, but it remains to be seen whether Barcelona can sanction all of their departures in the next summer.
Not to mention, the club may need to add reinforcements in other parts of the pitch, with Hansi Flick particularly interested in signing a new defender to replace Inigo Martinez in the coming years.
