Inter Boss Explains Liverpool Tactical ‘Issues’ And Questions Penalty Winner

Inter manager Cristian Chivu acknowledges his team struggled to cope with Liverpool’s intensity, but he questions the penalty that led to the Italians’ Champions League defeat. Dominik Szoboszlai’s penalty kick two minutes from time secured the Reds a 1-0 victory in Italy on Tuesday evening, their fourth consecutive win at San Siro.

The penalty was granted after referee Felix Zwayer ruled that Inter centre-back Alessandro Bastoni’s pull on substitute Florian Wirtz’s shirt was foul play after checking the VAR pitchside monitor.

After the final whistle, Inter’s players surrounded the official to express their displeasure with the decision, which allowed Liverpool to momentarily climb into the top eight of the Champions League table.

And Chivu stated, “If we are talking about manners, education, and what we want to transmit, I believe you see instances like that every time a corner or free kick is taken.

“What can I say?” I believe it was a little too easy. “I think we need to teach something different.”

The Reds, who are now unbeaten in four games, dominated a hard-fought contest and emerged victorious.  According to Echo News.

“It’s never easy to play against a physical team like Liverpool, who play with such intensity.

“We believed we’d get going in the second half, but our energy levels began to diminish, and we couldn’t make any more substitutions because we only had one slot left and a long way to go.

“We had to manage as best we could.

“Then we threw on three fresh players we thought might be able to come up with something different but then we lost the game based on one incident.”

Liverpool’s final two Champions League league games will be against Marseille on January 21 and Qarabag on January 28.
