Chelsea Makes Big Decision On Goalkeeper Connected With Leeds United As Transfer Offer Arises

Djordje Petrovic looks to have been left out of Chelsea Club World Cup roster this month, despite speculation of a move to Leeds United.

While it is believed that the goal was always to exclude this season’s loan players, the widely reported decision, originally shared by The Telegraph, has raised eyebrows given the Blues’ failure to sign AC Milan shot-stopper Mike Maignan before Thursday’s transfer deadline. Mike Penders, an incoming goalie, appears to be headed to the United States.

Petrovic, who was loaned to Strasbourg last season, is reportedly considering a move elsewhere. Leeds has been suggested as one interested party, but this has yet to be proven. The Whites are set to look for a new goalkeeper this summer.

Illan Meslier was dropped for the final seven games of the season, leaving him with an uncertain future. Meslier, new number one Karl Darlow, and third-choice Alex Cairns will reach the final year of their contracts next month.

Strasbourg are also one of a few clubs interested in United striker Mateo Joseph, who described losing his starting berth to Joel Piroe earlier this season as a “blow”. Real Betis are also interested, having had an earlier approach of more than £10 million rejected in February.

United, on the other hand, are more confident in signing Udinese defender Jaka Bijol, who is open to a move to the Premier League and has refused to rule out a summer escape.
