Today marks the 130th anniversary of Liverpool’s biggest league victory.
On the afternoon of February 18, 1896, the Reds defeated Rotherham Town 10-1 in aq Second Division match at Anfield.
George Allan scored four of their goals, the second time this season he has done so in one game.
Malcolm McVean has already scored three goals in the first 18 minutes of the game, Reported By liverpool News.
Jimmy Ross scored twice, and Frank Becton also contributed to an overwhelming victory that typified Liverpool’s home form.

Manager John McKenna (shown above) led the team to 14 victories, one draw, and 65 goals in 15 Second Division home matches that season.
They would go on to finish first in the league standings by goal average and eventually gain promotion back to the top division.
Thirteen decades later, the extent of Liverpool’s victory over Rotherham remains unmatched in a league match.
They have, however, triumphed by a nine-goal margin in league play twice since, defeating Crystal Palace 9-0 in 1989 and AFC Bournemouth by the same scoreline in 2022.
Overall, the Reds have equaled or surpassed Rotherham’s 10-1 score four times in European and cup competitions.
Stromsgodset was defeated 11-0 in the first round of the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1974, and it remains the club’s largest victory.
The next-best results were 10-0 victories over Dundalk in a 1969 European tie and Fulham in the League Cup in 1986.
In the 1980 European Cup, Liverpool defeated Oulu Palloseura 10-1 at Anfield.
