Wenger fury as Xhaka is accused of racism during a heated row at Heathrow Airport

Arsene Wenger will read the riot act to Granit Xhaka after his £34million midfielder was accused of racism during a heated row at Heathrow Airport.

Xhaka is alleged to have called a member of British Airways staff a ‘f****** white b****’ during an argument on Monday.

The Swiss was interviewed by police under caution. He disputes the wording of the allegation, particularly the racial element.

Xhaka was already in Wenger’s bad books after his reckless sending-off during Sunday’s dramatic win over Burnley.

And now the livid manager will talk to his summer signing at the club’s London Colney HQ.

Xhaka was at Terminal 5 to drop off his fiancee’s brother Leonard Lekaj, a German sixth division footballer, for his flight back to Germany.

The incident is said to have been triggered when Lekaj was refused entry to the plane after missing the check-in deadline.

Xhaka, 24, then made the alleged racist remark in German. Airport security and police were called to the scene.

Xhaka was then taken to a police station in west London.

No allegations have been made against Lekaj.

A Metropolitan Police statement read: ‘Police were called at 7:29pm on Monday, 23 January following an allegation that a member of staff had been racially abused at Heathrow Airport, Terminal 5.

‘The allegation was made by a third party. Officers attended and spoke with a man in his 20s. He was not arrested.

‘He voluntarily attended a west London police station where he was interviewed under caution. Enquiries continue.’

Arsenal say it is both a private and police matter.
