Thiago Out For Liverpool Due To A Hamstring Injury

Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara is set for a long layoff after he suffered a hamstring injury in the Reds’ opening Premier League game of the season.

The Spaniard was forced to leave Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Fulham after just 51 minutes, and an early scan has subsequently shown a hamstring issue.

According to Anfield insiders who spoke to GOAL, Thiago will have a second scan later this week. The timing of his potential comeback will depend on how the 31-year-old responds to first care and rehabilitation.

How Long Could Thiago Be Out For?

Thiago’s injury comes at a difficult period for Liverpool, who are currently without a number of first-team players.

While there is no set timeline for his recovery, sources have indicated he could make a quick recovery if his treatment is successful. However, he will almost probably be out for the remainder of August, skipping matches against Crystal Palace, Manchester United, Bournemouth, and Newcastle. It might potentially be too soon for the Merseyside derby against Everton on September 3 at Goodison Park.

After the Fulham game, manager Jurgen Klopp said, “This is not a good situation, I don’t like it at all, but we have to see how we react on that – but for sure not panicking”

While Curtis Jones, Ibrahima Konate, Diogo Jota, Caoimhin Kelleher, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and new signing Calvin Ramsay are still out due to illness or injury, Klopp will welcome back Naby Keita and Kostas Tsimikas this week.

Are Liverpool Looking To Sign A Replacement?

Currently, according to club insiders, Liverpool’s business in terms of signings is complete, however the injuries to Thiago and Konate in particular have come at a bad time.

Jurgen Klopp insisted that any transfer “would have to make sense, both now and in the long term” following the draw at Fulham.

In the past, he has rebuffed claims that Liverpool is lacking a midfielder, restating his confidence in players like Jones, Keita, Harvey Elliott, and Fabio Carvalho.

Sepp van den Berg, Jake Cain, and Max Woltman, a teenage forward, are all potential loan targets before the end of the month.

However, Klopp has already stated that the club’s injury situation may force them to reevaluate the idea of selling Nat Phillips, who has attracted interest from Fulham and Bournemouth.
