Ten Hag Makes Response Claim After Man Utd Bounce Back

Erik ten Hag has lauded Manchester United’s ability to recover from last Sunday’s embarrassing defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League.

The previous week, the Dutchman’s side defeated Newcastle to win United’s first title in six years. His side then traveled to Anfield, where the team lost 7-0, tying the worst loss in club history.

It didn’t took long before Man United put the Anfield humiliation they experienced behind them as they respond with a resounding 4-1 victory over Real Betis in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 match at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

Ten Hag looked to put the negative memories of their Sunday match against Jurgen Klopp’s team behind them by beginning with the same starting lineup that was at the receiving end on Sunday.

After the game, he (Ten Hag) was seen waxing lyrical about his team’s performance on Thursday night, stating that he expected such performance, that his team should have scored more, and how his players were complacent in the crushing defeat against Liverpool.

“Definitely (the response I wanted).

“We said that we had to reset and we have to bounce back and I think we played quite good first half. I think we should have been up 3-0 also, but then we make one mistake.

“Then you go 1-1 into half-time but we bounce back in the second half and I think it was a really good performance in the second half. It’s not about ignoring (the Liverpool defeat). We make mistakes and we got hammered for that because we didn’t control the standards we have.

“We showed complacency and you can never do that in top football.” Ten Hag told BT Sport
