Roma Sack Mourinho As Third Season Syndrome Continues

AS Roma have officially sacked Jose Mourinho, ending his third season spell at the Italian capital.

After joining the Giallorossi in 2021, Mourinho quickly won over the supporters by leading the team to the Europa League final the previous season and winning the Europa Conference League in 2022.

With his contract expiring this summer, the club decided to make a change after their defeat to Milan last weekend dropped them to ninth place in Serie A.

What Did Roma Say Following Mourinho’s Sack?

A club statement read: “We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club,” said Dan and Ryan Friedkin as reported by The Independent.

“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.

“We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”

In just his third season with the club, Mourinho, who began his managerial career at Benfica continues the record of being sacked in the third campaign after his appointment by his former employers.

The 60-year-old got sacked in his third season during his two separate spells at Chelsea. Manchester United’s hierarchy also booted him out in his third season at Old Trafford. LaLiga giants, Real Madrid also towed the same path in his third campaign at the helm.

Tottenham Hotspur are the only club where he spent just two seasons before he was relieved from his managerial duties.

Though, he left on his own terms when he was the boss at Porto and Inter Milan, spending just two seasons with both clubs. And it was only at these clubs he won the UEFA Champions League.
