Real Madrid Confirm Signing Bellingham

STOURBRIDGE-born As he spoke for the first time as a Real Madrid player, Jude Bellingham described it as the “proudest day” of his life.

Cconfirmed the signing of the 19-year-old England international on Wednesday, and he was unveiled in Madrid on Thursday afternoon after agreeing to a six-year contract.

The LaLiga giants paid an initial fee of 103 million euros (£88.5 million) to get Bellingham, who will move to Germany from his hometown club Birmingham in 2020.

With his parents watching on, Bellingham said: “Thank you for everyone for joining me on the proudest day of my life.

“The day where I joined the greatest football club in the history of the game. There are a lot of people to thank for getting me to this point – Borussia Dortmund and Birmingham City, the people that worked there. According to BBC Sports

Stourbridge FC, where Bellingham started as a youth player, sent a message to him in a Facebook post.

Birmingham took the surprising step of retiring his number 22 shirt at St Andrews following his departure to Dortmund.

Bellingham went on to score 24 goals in 132 appearances for the DFB Pokal in 2021.

He scored his first goal for England in their World Cup victory against Iran, however he is out of the squad for the forthcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia due to injury.
