Pogba Makes Disputable Fernandes Ballon d’Or Claim

Former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba has made the startling assertion that Bruno Fernandes, the current star of Old Trafford, would be a serious candidate for the Ballon d’Or if he were playing for Manchester City, a rival team.

After turning down offers from Saudi Arabia last summer, Fernandes has had a remarkable season for United.

He is only two assists away from the Premier League record for a single season thanks to his outstanding total of 18 assists.

Although Fernandes is already one of the front-runners for domestic end-of-season awards, Pogba thinks a transfer to a more prosperous team will make him more well-known worldwide.

Pogba Speaks

According to the Independent, while speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Pogba elaborated: “Do you think Bruno if he is in another team, he’s not in the top three Ballon d’Or players? For me, you put him in City, he’s Ballon d’Or (top) three.

“He’s in the three Ballon d’Or (contenders), Bruno Fernandes, with the stats this season, the way he plays and everything.

“But when you don’t win, they don’t think about you. This is life, this is football.”

Between 2020 and 2022, Pogba and Fernandes were teammates at United until the former chose to leave Old Trafford and sign a free transfer to join Juventus for the second time.

Pogba’s career has since been slowed by injuries and a drug ban, but the World Cup winner is currently playing for Monaco in Ligue 1 in his home country.

The 33-year-old has made four appearances for Monaco, who are presently ranked seventh in Ligue 1 this season.

Michael Carrick’s team are now getting closer to securing Champions League football for the upcoming campaign, and Fernandes has continued to lead from the front at United.
