Paris Saint-Germain confirm Unai Emery as their new manager

Unai Emery has been confirmed by Paris Saint-Germain as their new manager with the coach signing a two-year deal at the Ligue 1 club.

PSG announced this week that Laurent Blanc had left the club after three years in charge and the side have moved quickly to confirm on their website that they have already found a successor.

Emery left his position with La Liga club Sevilla at the end of the season after three years with the team, during which he led the side to three consecutive Europa League trophies.

And now the 44-year-old has moved onto the next stage of his career, signing for the French giants for two seasons with the option for an additional year in Paris.

Speaking to the PSG official website, Emery said: “It is with great pride that I agreed to become the Paris Saint-Germain coach.

“The club has become one of the biggest in Europe over the past few seasons and I am both happy and honoured to be able to help realise its great ambitions.”

PSG have won the Ligue 1 for the last four seasons but it’s on the European scene that the club have struggled, and it appears the club’s owners are keen to see further progression in the Champions League.

Emery’s record in European competition is likely to have been a major factor in swinging the decision to move for him this summer.
