According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, it is “too early” to predict whether Marcus Rashford will make an unexpected comeback to Manchester United this summer.
According to recent sources, if Rashford were appointed permanent head coach at the end of the season, interim manager Michael Carrick would like to bring him back to Old Trafford.
In his first few weeks in the dugout, the former United player has undoubtedly left a lasting impact. With a thrilling 3-2 victory over Fulham on Sunday, he has won his first three games, putting the Red Devils’ top-four push well on course.

Academy graduate Rashford has not played for United for over a year now, having left the club on loan to join Aston Villa for the second half of last season. He expressed a desire for a fresh challenge back in December 2024 because he didn’t seem to get along with his former manager Ruben Amorim.
He signed a season-long loan contract with Barcelona in the summer, with a £26 million buyout option. Romano claims that although Barca wants to keep Rashford past this season, it is not as simple as activating the purchase option due to the financial situation at the La Liga powerhouses.
That does leave the door open for an unexpected return to Old Trafford. Rashford won’t have played competitively for United for eighteen months by the end of the current campaign.
“Carrick appreciates Marcus Rashford, for sure, but my sense is that it is too early.
“Barcelona notified Marcus Rashford and his camp that they wanted him to stay. We hope Marcus will continue after this season.
“They are really happy with Marcus Rashford, and Rashford is happy there, but there is also the financial aspect.
