Mourinho: “Football Einsteins” trying to delete my 16-year career

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has criticised those who have questioned the bad week the club had and says football is “full of Einsteins”.

The Red Devils endured a rough seven days or so last week, after being beaten three times on the bounce by Manchester City, Feyenoord and then Watford.

Those results heaped plenty of pressure on to the shoulders of Mourinho and his men, but they managed to overcome that on Wednesday night by beating Northampton Town in the EFL Cup third round.

Whilst Manchester United will have to overcome much tougher tests than the game at the Sixfields Stadium in weeks to come, Mourinho knows their recent form was simply a blip and questioned those who have been so critical of his side.

“We had a bad week,” Mourinho told Sky Sports. “I know that some football Einsteins – well, that football is full of Einsteins.

“I know that they try to delete 16 years of my career. I know they try to delete an unbelievable history of Man United Football Club and to focus on a bad week with three bad results. But that is the new football. It is full of Einsteins.”

Manchester United will face reigning champions Leicester City this weekend – a match which will certainly be a test of their character.

The game will be the first one at Old Trafford since the Manchester derby and Mourinho will be keen to repay the fans with a strong performance.
