Mourinho Engages Anthony Taylor After Europa League Final Defeat

AS Roma head coach, Jose Mourinho was seen confronting referee Anthony Taylor in a car park after his side were defeated in the final of the UEFA Europa League on Wednesday.

After a 1-1 draw in regulation time, Sevilla defeated the Italian team on penalties to hand Mourinho his first defeat in six European finals.

But both teams were incensed, and Taylor brandished a record-breaking 14 yellow cards during the Europa League game.

According to ABC news, in the parking lot after the game, Mourinho was captured on camera swearing and calling the Premier League referee a “f–king disgrace.”

In his press conference after the match, the Portuguese coach berated Taylor for not giving Roma a penalty kick. For what he believed to savage a handball in the second half. As well as for a number of other decisions he believed the referee made incorrectly.

“The referee seemed like he was Spanish,” Mourinho said.

“The result was not fair, and there are a lot of instances to reexamine.”

“This is a European final, and with this kind of refereeing, it is hard to accept. If we talk about refereeing situations, it’s not two or three. It is many, quite apart from the big decisions. Those of us who have been in football a long time realise immediately what is going on, Mourinho added.

Given that he was also shown a yellow card during the game. UEFA may decide to ban Mourinho from participating in future European matches for a number of games.

Mourinho handed a young fan in the front row his runners-up medal after collecting it on the pitch. Adding later: “I only keep the gold ones.”
