Messi Is ‘Divine’ But Ronaldo ‘Revolutionised Football’ – Ex-Juventus Star

Former Juventus winger and Italy international, Federico Bernardeschi has expressed his thoughts on the debate surrounding Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Bologna player praised the two legends and described their differences from one another. Though Messi was referred to as “divine,” Ronaldo was praised for having “revolutionized football” and is a favourite among many players.

Messi and Ronaldo will be remembered as two of the best football players of all time. Together, the two have won 13 Ballons d’Or, with the Argentine taking home the crown an unprecedented eight times and the Portuguese winning five.

They “shared the same stage for 15 years”—pushing one another to reach new heights and leaving their names permanently etched in football history.

Bernardeschi Reveals Differences Between Messi And Ronaldo

Speaking to Tuttosport as quoted by Goal, Bernardeschi said: “They’re two different worlds. Like Cristiano, Messi is something you struggle to understand as a player.

“But they’re opposites: Messi catches your eye, he does things that seem unreal, he has an aura that doesn’t belong in this world. Cristiano has another characteristic: he revolutionized football and sport in general.

“Messi, like [Diego] Maradona, seems divine. If athletes today pay attention to every detail of their preparation, it’s thanks to Cristiano.”

Before leaving Europe for their separate paths, Messi and Ronaldo dominated world football for almost 20 years. The 40-year-old has already amassed more than 100 goals while playing for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

He’s targeting a last flourish with Portugal at next year’s World Cup amid his quest to complete 1,000 career goals.

Messi, meanwhile, has “completed football” after winning the World Cup, the only trophy that was absent from his cabinet in 2022.

He left Barcelona in 2021 and played for Paris Saint-Germain for two lackluster seasons before joining David Beckham’s Inter Miami in the Major League Soccer league.
