Manchester United are reportedly making significant progress in their pursuit of midfield targets Ederson and Mateus Fernandes ahead of the summer transfer window.
With Casemiro set to leave and Manuel Ugarte also facing an uncertain future, a major midfield rebuild is underway at Old Trafford.

United had been heavily linked with Elliot Anderson, but reports now suggest rivals Manchester City are favourites to secure his signature instead.
That development has reportedly pushed Michael Carrick’s side to accelerate moves for alternative targets as preparations continue for next season’s Champions League campaign.
Fernandes Race Tilts Towards Manchester United
Reports claim Manchester United have emerged as the leading contenders to sign Fernandes after stepping up discussions with the midfielder’s representatives recently.
The West Ham United star has attracted interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid.
However, United are reportedly in pole position, with Fernandes believed to be attracted by the prospect of playing alongside compatriot Bruno Fernandes.
The 21-year-old is now expected to cost between £43 million and £52 million following West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League, reports Football 365.
Meanwhile, negotiations for Ederson are said to be at an advanced stage, with Atalanta expected to receive a fee worth up to £43 million.
If both deals are completed, Manchester United could secure a midfield double signing worth around £95 million as Carrick reshapes his squad this summer.
