Koln exercised their option after successful negotiations, securing Simpson-Pusey’s services permanently when the transfer officially concludes July.
Manchester City will receive an initial €5.5 million fee, while performance-related add-ons could increase the overall package significantly.
The Premier League champions have also included both a buy-back clause and matching rights within the agreement.
City Protect Future Interests In Deal
Simpson-Pusey leaves City after making six senior appearances during the 2024-25 campaign across multiple competitions for the club.
The defender featured in Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League matches despite limited first-team opportunities.
One notable appearance came against Sporting Lisbon, where he started unexpectedly during a difficult Champions League defeat abroad.
Former manager Pep Guardiola publicly praised Simpson-Pusey’s composure, defensive qualities and maturity after impressive performances during injury crises.
Guardiola described the youngster as a valuable prospect capable of contributing significantly to Manchester City’s future defensive plans, reports Manchester evening news.
Before joining Koln permanently, Simpson-Pusey experienced an unsuccessful loan spell at Celtic during the first half last season.
Limited opportunities in Scotland prompted his recall, before a move to Germany helped revive his development trajectory.
The academy graduate enjoyed considerable success at youth level, winning the FA Youth Cup and Premier League award.
