Lukaku Labelled The Hottest Topic In Italian Football

Romelu Lukaku has officially been labelled as the most talked about footballer in the Italian national media over the course of the summer transfer window according to a recent study.

According to Mediamonitor.it, a platform that employs technology to analyze and monitor speech, Lukaku was referenced more times on television and radio this summer than any other player or coach in Italy.

The investigation discovered that Lukaku’s name was referenced 1,193 times between June 16, the last day of training last season, and September 1, the end of the transfer window.

The Belgian had made headlines both in Italy and around Europe when it became evident that he would not be returning to Inter after extensive talks with archrivals Juventus.

Lukaku finally joined neither club, eventually joining Jose Mourinho’s Roma on loan from Chelsea until the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.

The second-most cited player in the Italian media this summer was Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic, who had been linked with a move to Chelsea as part of a prospective exchange deal for the aforementioned Lukaku for some time.

Davide Frattesi is third on the list with 455 references, Victor Osimhen of Napoli is fourth with 419 mentions, and Gianluca Scamacca of Atalanta, who joined the club this summer from West Ham, is fifth with 394.

Alvaro Morata, Andre Onana, Rudi Garcia, Sandro Tonali, and Marcelo Brozovic are among the other players in Mediamonitor’s top ten.
