Luis Suarez Receives Record Offer To Become Highest-Paid Player In League’s History

Luis Suarez has received an unprecedented contract offer from Argentine Primera Division club River Plate as he prepares to leave Atletico Madrid this summer.

Suarez’s contract with Atletico Madrid expires on June 30, and he will leave the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium after two years. According to Fichajes, he may be moving to Argentina, where River Plate is interested in signing him.

The offer from Los Millonarios is unmatched in Argentine football, as they try to make Suarez the Primera Division’s poster boy. Suarez’s proposed contract would make him the highest-paid player in league history, surpassing Carlos Tevez’s 2015 contract with Boca Juniors. The Fichajes report doesn’t give any figures, but the Birmingham Mail estimates it’s in the area of £4.2 million.

The Uruguayan has had a tremendous career with Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, and Ajax despite being on the wrong side of 30. In 697 club appearances, he has 240 goals and 152 assists. Among other accolades, he has won the UEFA Champions League, the La Liga title five times, and the Eredivisie crown.

However, with the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on the horizon, the legendary forward wants to continue his career in Europe. As a result, Suarez is said to have made an offer to Juventus of Serie A.

Prior to joining Atletico Madrid from Barcelona in 2020, the 35-year-old was close to joining Massamilliano Allegri’s team. He might replace Alvaro Morata at Juventus, as the Spaniard’s loan term from Atletico Madrid comes to an end.
