Liverpool’s disappointing end to the season has sparked fresh controversy after Mohamed Salah publicly criticised manager Arne Slot following the club’s defeat to Aston Villa.
The Reds have now gone nearly a month without a victory, increasing pressure around the squad ahead of their final match against Brentford.

Salah’s comments appeared to question Slot’s tactics and Liverpool’s current identity, causing frustration among supporters and former players alike.
The Egyptian forward hinted that Liverpool had moved away from their aggressive style, insisting the team must return to its feared attacking approach.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher strongly criticised Salah’s timing, accusing the winger of putting personal issues ahead of the club’s Champions League ambitions.
Carragher described the comments as “selfish” and claimed the focus should remain entirely on Liverpool’s crucial final fixtures.
Carragher and Riise Criticise Salah’s Public Comments
Carragher compared the situation to Cristiano Ronaldo’s controversial Manchester United exit, insisting Salah’s remarks created unnecessary drama during an important period.
He argued Liverpool still have major objectives to secure and should avoid distractions surrounding departing players.
Former Liverpool full-back John Arne Riise also questioned Salah’s decision to speak publicly before the season officially concludes.
Riise admitted he was surprised because he always viewed Salah as respectful, professional, and committed to the club’s values.
Riise suggested external advisors may be encouraging Salah to place his personal image above Liverpool’s interests, reports Daily Star.
He stressed no player is bigger than Liverpool, regardless of achievements, popularity, or long-term contributions throughout successful years at Anfield.
Despite the growing criticism, Salah could still leave on a positive note if Liverpool finish strongly against Brentford.
Reports also suggest discussions are ongoing regarding a proper farewell arrangement for the Egyptian star before his expected summer departure.
