Jurgen Klopp Spoke Out About Change In Perspective As Liverpool Icon Prepares For New Job This Summer

Jurgen Klopp, former Liverpool manager,  looking forward to working with one of his former players at this summer’s World Cup. After accepting a punditry role in his home Germany, the Liverpool legend will go to the United States, Mexico, and Canada for the World Cup in 2026.

This summer will mark two years since Klopp’s historic tenure as Reds manager came to an end. He quickly took a position as Red Bull’s Head of Global Football, but this summer he will embark on a new endeavor as a commentator for MagentaTV.

The recently retired defender will join Klopp and former Germany teammate Thomas Muller in the World Cup 2026 hot seat. And Klopp mentioned that the new dynamic between the two has “changed the perspective” slightly.

“So many [of my] former players are part of the World Cup, which is really, really nice,” he told BBC Sport when asked who he believes will have a big tournament in North America. “And notice how quickly time passes.

“Another former player of mine, Mats Hummels, will be a co-pundit for me, as will Thomas Muller, but Mats Hummels was my former player. So everything abruptly shifted perspective.”

Hummels, 37, retired last year after a one-year stint with Roma, his only season away from Germany. However, he returned to Dortmund for  final appearance in a friendly against Juventus.

He and Klopp worked miracles together at the Westfalenstadion long before the strategist became the legend he is today. In some ways, Liverpool supporters may be grateful to Hummels for his key role in the accomplishments that led to the arrival of one of the Reds’ most legendary managers at Anfield.

Klopp presented a positive image before of Scotland’s World Cup group stage match against Brazil. Andy Robertson and Alisson will face off during that game, which may take place in the same summer that both players depart the club.
