Jurgen Klopp Provides Darwin Nunez Injury Update Ahead Of Chelsea Clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that Darwin Nunez will be available to play for their Premier League clash against Chelsea this weekend.

The Uruguay international missed a few days of training due to an unspecified issue prior to last weekend’s trip to Brighton & Hove Albion, forcing him to miss the 3-0 loss.

Nunez was also ruled out of the Reds’ FA Cup third-round replay against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday, despite Klopp’s assurance that the attacker was “very close” to returning.

After the Reds’ victory at Molineux, Klopp was able to provide a positive update on Nunez, who should be in the squad for Graham Potter’s visit.

“I hope Darwin is back in training tomorrow or Thursday, so he might be in contention then,” Klopp said when asked about the team selection for the weekend.

“So we have now a couple of days training and it is not now that we… I don’t think it would now be right after one game and say, ‘OK, that’s the team now for the next eight weeks or whatever’, these kind of things.

Harvey Elliott’s incredible long-range goal propelled Liverpool into the fourth round on Tuesday. The teenager was one of eight changes made by the Reds following the weekend’s humiliating loss at Brighton.

Spanish midfielder Stefan Bajcetic overcame a hip injury to start in place of Fabinho, and the 18-year-old earned plenty of praise for his tenacious performance in the middle of the park.

Liverpool will travel to Brighton in the fourth round to defend their FA Cup title, and they will host Chelsea at Anfield, where they are currently ninth in the Premier League table, only ahead of the Blues on goal difference with a game in hand.
