How did Paris Saint-Germain convince Kylian Mbappe to accept a new contract and reject a transfer to Real Madrid?

The Frenchman has signed a new three-year contract at Parc des Princes, rejecting a move to the Santiago Bernabeu in the process. Mbappe’s previous contract was set to end on June 30, and it was widely reported that Madrid had already agreed to take him on a free transfer.

However, no final agreement was reached, with Mbappe ultimately deciding to sign new terms with PSG, which would keep him at Parc des Princes for another three years.

Mbappe Becomes PSG’s Highest-Paid Player

According to GOAL, it can be  confirmed that PSG have made Mbappe their highest-paid player after signing him to a new contract, with the 23-year-old earning more than Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Mbappe will also earn a €100 million (£85 million/$106 million) signing bonus, and club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has promised him massive improvements in the boardroom and the team.

Leonardo, the club’s sporting director, is set to leave, with Luis Campos expected to take his place after successful spells in the same role at Monaco and Lille.

What Role Did President Emmanuel Macron Play In Mbappe’s Contract?

Mbappe’s final choice was influenced by French President Emmanuel Macron, who spoke with the forward multiple times over the phone in recent months.

Mbappe, Macron argued, would be better off staying in Paris because he is regarded as an idol in the city and might be in the spotlight when the Olympic Games are held there in 2024.

He also reminded the PSG star of his status  as a role model for the younger generation, urging him to examine the benefits of continuing his career in his homeland.

Mbappe’s passion for the club was also a key factor, as he has a burning ambition to become the club’s greatest-ever player and break Edinson Cavani’s all-time scoring record of 170 goals, which he is now only 30 goals behind.
