Furious Jose Mourinho Sent Off For Angry Outburst Before Snubbing Media Duties

Jose Mourinho snubbed his media duties after being sent off once again as Roma were held by Atalanta.

Roma had gone behind just eight minutes in when Teun Koopmeiners headed Aleksey Miranchuk’s cross past Rui Patricio. The hosts were back on level terms six minutes before the break when Matteo Ruggeri fouled Rick Karsdorp in the area.

Paulo Dybala stepped up to score the equalizer from the penalty spot, although neither team could find a winner.

He’d already received a yellow card for dissent in the first half when he stormed out of his technical area in a rage at a decision. In the 93rd minute, Mourinho yelled and flung his arms around Aureliano.

Aureliano duly dismissed the Roma manager, and Mourinho is now poised to get a touchline ban for Sunday’s match against AC Milan. Mourinho declined to speak to the media after getting sent off, and his players did the same.

The boss, players, and directors did not appear at any of their post-game media appearances. Roma stated in a statement provided to DAZN and Sky Sport Italia that they ‘prefer not to comment’ on the match.

Mourinho’s Reaction?

The defeat was disheartening for the Italian giants, who now sit in seventh place in Serie A. They are four points behind fourth-placed Fiorentina and three points ahead of fifth-placed Bologna.

Mourinho’s suspension comes at the start of a huge week for Roma, with a Coppa Italia quarter-final against Lazio on Wednesday before a clash with Milan on Sunday. His ban will only apply to the game against Milan though, with the Coppa Italia a seperate competition.

Mourinho and Roma were not the only ones unhappy with Aureliano’s performance. The visitors and boss Gian Piero Gasperini also hit out at the official for his decisions, including ruling out a goal by Gianluca Scamacca.

“Undoubtedly, it is a good point for us, as Carnesecchi made some good saves, but we too had chances. For example, a big opportunity with De Ketelaere when already 1-0 up,” Gasperini told DAZN.

“Lukaku and Dybala raise the level of a strong team, but clearly we could’ve avoided the penalty situation. We are also left with many doubts on the Scamacca goal that was disallowed.
