Former Liverpool Star Avoids Jail But Warned By Court After Ignoring Orders

Former Liverpool striker El Hadji Diouf has reportedly received a suspended prison sentence after failing to pay child maintenance fees owed to his ex-wife.

According to reports, the former Senegal international was ordered to repay nearly £14,000 in missed payments following legal action brought by Valerie Bishop.

The pair divorced in 2023, with Bishop receiving custody of their daughter, Keyla, reports give me sports.

The court heard Diouf was required to pay monthly child support, alongside school fees and medical expenses, but allegedly stopped making payments in March 2024.

After missing several previous hearings, the ex-Liverpool FC forward appeared in court this week, where he was handed a one-year suspended prison sentence and ordered to clear the outstanding amount.

Lawyers representing Bishop argued that Diouf had the financial means to meet his obligations through property income, advertising work, and his involvement with the Senegal Football Federation.

Career Continues To Draw Controversy

Diouf enjoyed a high-profile rise after starring for Senegal national football team at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, earning a £10 million move to Liverpool from Lens.
