Federico Valverde To Escape Ban For Punching Villarreal Player

Real Madrid midfielder, Fede Valverde appears likely to avoid a potential 12-game suspension for striking Alex Baena.

This is because neither the Villarreal player nor the club are anticipated to report the incident to the Spanish Football Federation.

Despite possessing video evidence of the incident, according to Diario AS Villarreal’s reporter Javier Mata. Neither the club nor the player are getting ready to take legal action.

After Valverde hit Baena as he boarded the Villarreal team bus on Saturday night following Villarreal’s 3-2 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu. The club’s initial response was to defer to their player.

Baena denies telling Valverde in a cup game earlier this year: ‘Cry now that your son is not going to be born’.

It was claimed that the remark was made around the time that Valverde’s wife was at risk of losing their second child.

Baena posted on social media on Sunday morning: ‘Very happy with the team’s impressive victory in a place like the Santiago Bernabeu. But at the same time very sad about the aggression I suffered after the match. And surprised by what is being said about me. IT IS TOTALLY UNTRUE THAT I SAID THAT.’

The maximum suspension for such an assault is four to twelve games. However the incident was not mentioned in the referee’s report. And it will only be addressed if a formal complaint is made.

Valverde, a Uruguayan international, admitted his “aggression” to Marca. And claimed he was responding to fresh remarks of a similar type made during the game on Saturday, though Baena disputes this.

The game at the Santiago Bernabeu ended in Villarreal’s favour as they came back twice to snatch the victory from the claws of Real Madrid.
