Kevin Keegan revealed to fans that he is battling stage four cancer during a public appearance in Newcastle over the weekend.
It was confirmed back in January that the former manager of the Magpies, Manchester City, and England was to have cancer treatment.
The football community responded to the news with a flurry of solidarity, especially from Keegan’s former teams. Newcastle confirmed the news by releasing a statement from the 75-year-old and his family.
He looked upbeat in a brief video before making his first public appearance over the weekend at the Tyne Theatre to reflect on his career.
Keegan Revealed His Health Status In Public
Keegan revealed more information about his health at that appearance, telling fans that he had stage four cancer, the most severe type of the disease.
The former England international is quoted as saying by The Mail: “They said we have a top doctor with this new way of fighting what you have got. Which is stage four cancer.
“He was a Liverpool supporter so I went to meet him. I knew I wouldn’t be walking alone, if you know what I mean.”
Keegan was very well himself during the event. He had a great playing career and represented Liverpool and his beloved Magpies, among other teams.

He jokingly recounted the moment his treating doctor told him about his remarkable strike-rate against the illness.
Keegan quipped: “I said: ‘Fantastic! What is your strike-rate?’ He said: ’33 per cent”. Oh. I thought he might say 80, maybe 90! Anyway, I am still here at the moment…
