Enrique Provides Dembele Injury Update Ahead Of Champions League Showdown With Arsenal

Luis Enrique allayed concerns that Ousmane Dembele might have sustained a serious injury by speculating that the attacker was just experiencing “fatigue” following Paris Saint-Germain’s loss to Paris FC.

Dembele was selected for his 11th start of the Ligue 1 season on Sunday even as the team had already secured a fifth consecutive title with a victory against Lens earlier in the week.

However, just 27 minutes into the match at Paris FC’s Stade Jean-Bouin, the 29-year-old forward—who currently holds the Ballon d’Or—was substituted for Goncalo Ramos.

Dembele went directly down the tunnel to the away dressing room in the French capital, seemingly battling with a possible thigh issue.

PSG will play Arsenal in the Champions League final in less than two weeks, so Enrique would have been fretting on the sidelines with one of his key players obviously uncomfortable.

Dembele has had difficulty staying fit this season, missing a month of action due to a hamstring injury in September and suffering two different calf problems.

It’s possible that Didier Deschamps, the head coach of France, was worried because he had included the attacker in his 26-man World Cup squad just a few days prior.,

Enrique Dismisses Dembele Injury Concern

Asked for an update on Dembele’s condition shortly after the final whistle, Enrique told Ligue 1+ as quoted by the Metro: “He’s fine. I hope it’s nothing serious.”

Soon afterwards at his post-match press conference, the PSG boss was pushed to elaborate on what exactly had forced Dembele from the field, to which he replied: “I think it’s just fatigue.

“What we’re saying today is just speculation, but I don’t think it’s anything serious, and there are still two weeks left”
