England have safely booked their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stage, but concerns are growing over the fitness of Bukayo Saka after another underwhelming display in the group stage.
The Arsenal winger made his first start of the tournament in England’s 2-0 victory over Panama after appearing as a substitute in the opening matches against Croatia and Ghana. However, Saka struggled to make his usual impact before being substituted in the second half, reports Metro.
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes the 24-year-old is still not fully fit and suggested Thomas Tuchel may need to reconsider his selection for England’s Round of 32 clash against DR Congo.
According to Neville, Saka does not appear to be playing with his usual energy and confidence, raising concerns that his ongoing Achilles issue may still be affecting his performances.

England also have injury concerns elsewhere, with Declan Rice rested during the final group game and Reece James continuing his recovery from a hamstring problem.
While England progressed with seven points from three matches, former players including Wright and Roy Keane warned that the team’s wide attackers must begin making a greater impact. With tougher opponents awaiting in the knockout rounds, Tuchel will hope his key players can regain full fitness and rediscover their best form.
