Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry have spoken about why more neutral fans aren’t supporting for Arsenal to win the Premier League title this season.
The Gunners defeated Everton over the weekend to move nine points clear at the top of the Premier League, where they hope to win their first title in over 20 years.
Man City still has an opportunity to catch them, though, as Pep Guardiola’s side hosts Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium next month, and they still have a game in hand.
The Citizens won the previous four Premier League titles before Liverpool were victorious last season, while Arsenal last won one in 2003/04.

Despite this, there appear to be more neutrals hoping Arsenal is beaten to the Premier League title by Manchester City, who have dominated over the last decade.
Henry told Sky Sports: “A lot of people are like, anything but Arsenal winning the league. I wanted Liverpool to win the league because I wanted Jamie Carragher and Stevie G (Steven Gerrard) to win it.
“Whether I like Liverpool or not, you support for the underdog, the team who couldn’t make it or failed to win the league. (However), many people do not want Arsenal to win the league.
Carragher concurred, saying, “I think it’s very strange, and perhaps it’s the same with the Carabao Cup final.” When you have a team like Manchester City, who have dominated in the past, most neutrals like the underdog – the team that wants to fight.
“But it doesn’t feel that way at Arsenal. Perhaps there are many Manchester United or Liverpool fans who, despite the fact that City is the local competitor and Liverpool has been competing with City for the title (in recent years), are looking and thinking, ‘Maybe I want City to win it’.
In His Words ?
Hurzeler stated earlier this month: “Only one team attempted to play football today. There were numerous actions (of time-wasting).
“Ultimately, it’s all about the rules. If the Premier League, the referee, accepts anything, it will be difficult. Arsenal establish their own rules. At the present, I believe they make their own rules, regardless of how they play.”
