Barcelona director refuses to comment on Allegri speculation

Barcelona sporting director Ariedo Braida has refused to provide any details regarding the club’s reported approach for Massimiliano Allegri as a successor for Luis Enrique.

It was announced last week that Enrique won’t be at the helm at the Nou Camp next season, with Allegri, who has earned rave reviews for his work with Juventus, seen as a possible candidate to replace him.

Braida told Radio Anch’io Sport (via Football Italia): “Allegri? We know him well, but at this time we cannot talk about it. It’s all top secret.

“In the press every day new names come out, from [Ernesto] Valverde to [Jorge] Sampaoli, to [Ronald] Koeman to Eusebio of Real Sociedad and this is from the Barcelona family.”

For now Barcelona are mainly focused on matters on the pitch, with the club currently top of La Liga by one point, albeit having played one game more than their closest challengers Real Madrid.

Enrique has enjoyed much success as Barcelona manager – he has won two La Liga titles, the Champions League, two Copa Del Reys, the Super Cup, the Club World Cup and the Supercopa de Espana.

Allegri, meanwhile, has guided Juventus to two Serie A successes, while he has also won two Coppa Italias and the Supercoppa Italiana.

Barcelona are in action at home to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League Last 16 on Wednesday night as they seek to overturn their 4-0 deficit from the first leg.
