Aston Villa Goalkeeper Robin Olsen Speaks Out On Attack By Man City Fans During Pitch Invasion

Robin Olsen has spoken out after being attacked by fans during a pitch invasion after Manchester City’s thrilling final-day victory over Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.

After being targeted during a pitch invasion, Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen stated that those who attacked him “will not destroy his emotions.”

At full-time at the Etihad, a steward was escorting the goalscorer off the pitch when fans rushed onto the pitch. He was, however, the target of an attack, which has become a troubling trend in recent weeks at stadiums around the country.

He was ‘assaulted’ by pitch-invading Man City fans after the final whistle

Olsen was making his Villa debut since first-choice goalkeeper Emi Martinez was injured. He had kept City out for more than 70 minutes as Matty Cash and Philippe Coutinho gave the visitors a shock 2-0 lead. Manchester City, on the other hand, scored three goals in five minutes to turn the game around.

On the blue side of Manchester, emotions were at an all-time high, but Olsen insists the events after the whistle will not ruin his afternoon, as he stated on social media: “Those fools who attacked me will not be able to take away my feelings about today’s game. I was given the opportunity to make my debut for this fantastic club, and we came really close to achieving a positive result against a formidable opponent.”

After the game, Steven Gerrard was questioned about the incidents, but asked that City and their management take responsibility. He said: “Our goalkeeper came under attack. We’ll see how he is now, but I believe you should put such questions to Pep [Guardiola] and Manchester City.”

City have said in a statement: “Manchester City would like to sincerely apologise to Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen, who was assaulted after the final whistle at today’s match when fans entered the pitch.”

Roy Keane questioned how far those people would go. “It’s very disgraceful,” he stated on Sky Sports. I guarantee that a player or a manager will be gravely injured. If you’re crazy enough to come on and punch a gamer, you’re also stupid enough to stab them.

“Something crazy will occur. I believe that people have forgotten how to act since returning from Covid. Idiots. Scumbags. Disgrace. We’ve seen it this week, Patrick Vieira, a player walking off the field and being attacked. “Absolutely despicable.”
